
U.S. Ambassador Meets Justice Minister Oswald Tweh, Congratulates Liberia on Securing Non-Permanent Seat on UN Security Council
Monrovia, Liberia – Honorable Mark C. Toner, the United States of America Ambassador, accredited near Monrovia on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 paid a courtesy visit to Liberia’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, at his office in Monrovia.
The visit comes in the wake of Liberia’s successful election as a non-permanent member to the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term.
During the visit, Ambassador Toner extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Government and People of Liberia on this significant diplomatic achievement and commended Liberia for its increasing role in promoting global peace and security while emphasizing that Liberia’s achievement of this major milestone at this time is a testament to the country’s renewed international standing and commitment to global democratic governance.
“This is a proud moment for Liberia,” said Ambassador Toner . “Your country’s voice on the Security Council will be important in shaping a peaceful and secure international community. We look forward to collaboration on regional security, rule of law, and democratic integrity.”
Ambassador Toner also lauded Minister Tweh for his leadership at the Ministry of Justice and implored him to continuously exercise due diligence in the discharge of his duties to rebuild public trust in the justice system.
He stressed the importance of an accountable and credible justice system that will ensure that the ends of Justice are prioritized so that all Liberians can have renewed faith in the Justice System .
In response, Minister Tweh expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated Liberia’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and enhancing access to Justice for all Liberians .
The Attorney General also assured Ambassador Toner that Liberia’s role on the Security Council will be guided by principles of peace, justice, and collaboration with relevant international partners and institutions.
“We are honored by this recognition from the international community and will approach our role with a deep sense of responsibility and dedication,” said Minister Tweh. “
We also value the longstanding partnership between Liberia and the United States Government and remain committed to maintaining and strengthening this relationship.”
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared interest in advancing justice sector reform, regional stability, and mutual diplomatic interests.
