Ministry of Justice's Gender and Social Inclusion Unit(GSIU) rollouts gender policy in Grand Gedeh
The Ministry of Justice's Gender and Social Inclusion Unit (GSIU), led by its Director Maude M. Somah, has officially rolled out the Ministry's Gender Policy and Five-Year Action Plan at the Tubman Palace in Grand Gedeh County.
This initiative is part of a nationwide rollout aimed at promoting gender equality and enhancing women's participation in decision-making within Liberia's justice sector.
In his opening remarks on Monday, June 2, 2025, Grand Gedeh County Superintendent, Alex Grant expressed his administration's commitment to promote the policy at all levels of the county administration.
In an overview, GSIU's Director Maude M. Somah speaking on behalf of Justice Minister, Cllr. Oswald Tweh emphasized the importance of women's inclusion in key decision-making sectors of government.
She highlighted the policy's objective to rectify existing gender imbalances within the Ministry, noting that women have historically been underrepresented in senior professional and management roles at all government's Ministries/Agencies.
The Gender Policy and Five-Year Action Plan, launched in October 2024, is structured into four regions, with Grand Gedeh County included in Region Four, alongside Rivergee, Maryland, and Grand Kru counties.
The rollout aims to raise awareness, provide training on gender mainstreaming, and establish mechanisms to monitor and evaluate policy implementation at regional and county levels.
The launch in Grand Gedeh County marks a significant step in the Ministry's efforts to promote gender equality and social inclusion within Liberia's justice system.
